Casta Diva Resort now operating as Mandarin Oriental, Lake Como, though most people on the lake still call it by its original name is about as good as it gets for a proposal with real “wow” factor. Once the home of the celebrated 19th-century soprano Giuditta Pasta, the estate was rebuilt in Art Nouveau style in the early 1900s and now sits on the eastern shore of the lake in Blevio, surrounded by 26,000 square meters of botanical gardens, with a floating pool that alone is worth the trip.

A Russian couple chose exactly this setting for their proposal I filmed the moment itself, while Alessandro Roncaglione covered photography. Locations like Casta Diva don’t really need much help from a camera; between the lake, the gardens and the resort’s own quiet grandeur, the setting does most of the emotional work on its own, leaving me free to focus entirely on the couple and the moment itself.
