Stefania got ready in Bollate, at Cascina del Sole, while Francesco prepared just down the road in Garbagnate Milanese the two of them married at the church in Garbagnate before making their way to Villa Acquaroli in Carvico for the reception. This 18th-century villa, set in a park with a small lake and centuries-old trees, has one detail that makes for a genuinely dramatic shot: the long driveway leading up to it. I had the drone up as the couple arrived by car, tracking them the full length of that avenue one of the more visually striking entrances I’ve filmed.
The night wrapped up with fireworks, and photography throughout the day was handled by Andrea De Gennaro of MAF Studio in Milan.
There’s one thing about this wedding I still think about often. A few days after the ceremony, I went back to record Stefania’s father reading a voice-over for the film his own words, in his own voice, woven into the opening of the video. It felt like a nice touch at the time. It means something else entirely now. He passed away suddenly, far too young, at just seventy. Hearing his voice in that film today carries a weight it never would have back then and it’s exactly why I keep doing things like this whenever a couple lets me. A photo or a video can bring someone close again, but there’s something about hearing their voice that neither one quite manages on its own.
