A Timeless Wedding in the Dolomites — Colfosco, Alta Badia

Some weddings you remember for the location. Others, you remember for the people. This one had both, and it’s stayed one of the ones I’m proudest of, years later.

Catrina, a lawyer, and Bobby, a police captain, came from San Francisco, completely in love with the Dolomites and it showed in every part of the day. They got ready at Hotel Kolfuschgerhof in Colfosco, welcomed by Dagmar and her family, who run the place with a warmth that’s hard to overstate. The ceremony was held in a small, charming church right in the village, before everyone moved up to Col Pradat for the reception, mountains on every side.

This was also early days for me flying drones I’d brought some of the first ones out from Milan to fly between those peaks, which wasn’t nearly as common back then as it is now. Watching that footage back, it still holds up.

The wedding was planned by Jlenia Costner, who’s since become one of the most well-known wedding planners in Alta Badia though at the time, she was really just getting started too. It’s strange, looking back, to realize we were both near the beginning of something. On second camera was Daniele Mileto, known as Keydioma, and on a third camera was Andrea Roncari, who also covered a separate project I filmed for the hotel and its mountain refuge Dagmar and her family commissioned that one directly after seeing how the wedding turned out. Photography was handled by Fabio Radaelli, from Bergamo.

I still consider this one of my best weddings, and not just for the footage. A few years ago, Catrina reached out and asked if I could send her some footage of her and her father from that day. He had passed away, and she wanted to be able to watch that moment again. I went back through everything and sent it to her. It’s a small thing on my end, but it’s exactly why this job matters to me: I’m not just filming a wedding day. I’m filming the people you love, at a moment you’ll want to come back to sometimes for reasons you can’t yet know when the camera’s rolling.
