Some weddings I film as a professional. This one, I was part of in a way I’d never been before and likely never will be again in quite the same way.
Francesca has been my wife’s best friend since they were fourteen years old. My wife stood as her maid of honor. And for the ceremony itself, I stepped away from the camera just long enough to act as celebrant my first and, so far, only time doing it. I won’t pretend I wasn’t emotional up there.
Francesca, from Solaro, and Fabio, from Cinisello Balsamo, got ready at home before the wedding and reception, both held entirely at Camp di Cent Pertigh a 17th-century former convent turned rustic restaurant in Carate Brianza, all exposed stone and countryside charm, exactly the kind of understated, romantic setting that suits two people who never needed anything flashy to make their day feel special.
It was an April wedding, and for my wife and me her, standing beside her oldest friend; me, somewhere between celebrant and filmmaker it was one of the more emotional days either of us has been part of. We ate, we danced well into the evening, and by the end of it I’d put together a 3-minute trailer built around a voice-over from Francesca herself.
On second camera with me was Daniele Mileto, Keydioma, and photography was handled by Robertoesseph.
Francesca is one of those people you only meet a handful of times in life the real deal, through and through. Fabio, on the other hand, is a die-hard metalhead, a devoted Slayer fan, which makes for a pretty perfect contrast against how genuinely gentle he is with her. These days they’re both deep into CrossFit and just back from their honeymoon in Japan already planning the next trip, I’d bet.
