Some weddings are a day. This one was three.
Ilaria and Mauro flew out from Milan with their entire family for a destination wedding in Mykonos three intense days of laughter, emotion, and genuinely non-stop fun, the kind that only happens when you take a wedding out of the usual routine and turn it into a proper trip. The ceremony was held in a small, charming church in the heart of Mykonos Town, before everyone moved down to the beach for preparations and the reception sand underfoot, the Aegean right there as a backdrop, the whole thing about as far from a formal Italian villa wedding as you can get.
It’s one of the older weddings in my archive at this point, but it’s stayed one of the most fun. On second camera with me was Federico Sammartino, and photography was handled by Agostino Marinaro of BM Fotofilms someone I’d go on to work alongside many more times over the years.
The night wrapped up the way every great Italian celebration abroad should: a big plate of spaghetti, shared well after midnight, because apparently three days of Greek sun still isn’t enough to make an Italian family forget what a proper meal looks like.
A small update, years later: I was recently back behind the camera for Ilaria and Mauro again, this time filming the christening of their second child a full-circle moment I might turn into its own post down the line.
