Some weddings feel personal before you even pick up the camera. Andrea is the son of a friend of my wife’s, and he lives just down the road from me in Paderno Dugnano Barbara grew up close by too, near the Parco delle Groane in Cesate. This one was very much a home game.
After preparations, everyone headed to Castello di Rossino in Calolziocorte one of the oldest historic residences in Lombardy, perched on a promontory over the branch of Lake Como that Manzoni made famous in I Promessi Sposi, with a stone tower dating back to the 1200s. Local tradition even holds that this was the castle of L’Innominato from the novel. Both the religious ceremony and the reception happened right there, one of the more spectacular weddings I’ve filmed.
Andrea made his entrance in a Ferrari, which tells you everything about the energy of the day. For the aerials, I brought in Hermes from Paderno Dugnano he used to run a model shop, and has since built APR FlyTech, now a serious name in drone technology. Back then, he was flying a DJI Inspire, which at the time was simply the best drone on the market. Photography was handled by a photographer I know well, who’s asked not to be named here.
And then there was the ceremony itself, led by none other than don Bruno Maggioni yes, the famous singing priest, known nationwide for his appearances on Barbara D’Urso’s shows and for closing out every wedding he celebrates with “Mamma Maria” by Ricchi e Poveri. Simply put, the best don I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with he’s also the one who baptized my own daughter. The night wrapped up with fireworks launched alongside drone footage, which at the time felt genuinely cutting-edge, even if it’s standard practice today.
