Abbazia di Santo Spirito, in Comignago, is one of those rare venues that lets you shoot an entire wedding getting ready through to the last dance without ever leaving the grounds. A medieval abbey turned wedding location, with a consecrated private chapel dating back to 1282 and a secular park that still carries a real sense of history, it’s exactly the kind of place I love working in for that reason alone.
Cinzia got ready on site, which meant I could capture some genuinely beautiful footage of her in the room beforehand the kind of shots that simply wouldn’t have existed if she’d prepared at home instead. Alessandro got ready separately, at home, before joining her at the abbey. For preparations and the ceremony, Claudio De Pompeis worked alongside me as second videographer before heading off, leaving me to continue solo through the rest of the day.
The ceremony was a rose ritual, followed by aperitivo, dinner and dancing late into the evening. The couple was warm and easygoing with the whole team, genuinely enjoyable to work with start to finish and generous enough with their time that the couple’s portrait session, shot on a Sony 50mm f/1.2, turned into one of the highlights of the day. Photography was handled by Bottega Incontroluce, a team I’ve worked alongside on many weddings by now.
For the edit, I built the film around Aretha Franklin’s “I Say a Little Prayer” the kind of track that carries a day like this without ever fighting for attention.
